A little about me
My name is Zachary Styles, and I am first and foremost a designer.
I've been a graphic designer, an illustrator, a fashion coordinator, a layout designer, a teacher and a product designer.
I'm not full-stack, but I've picked up some neat tricks and insights along the way, with a current pension for hand-drawn illustration, digital product design, and service design.
I have an analytical eye for details and borderline OCD when it comes to pixel dimensions and patterns; which means when I see a design problem I can solve, not only do I welcome the opportunity, I find it hard to turn a blind eye.
What I bring to the table
Coming from an artistic family, I’ve always been inspired to think of creative solutions and approach challenges with a totally open mind.
I also thrive at the intersection of art and design, bringing a distinctive, artistic twist to functional solutions. And as an avid learner, I’m constantly seeking opportunities to refine my skills and stay ahead in a world that never stops evolving.
My experience
Bachelor of Design Graduate
Durban, South Africa
Became president of the newly founded SRC at my campus, and graduated Cum Laude and Top Graphic Design Graduate across the country.
Designer & Illustrator
Durban, South Africa
As an in-house graphic designer and illustrator my responsibilities were to design and develop local seasonal range catalogues and South African inspired t-shirt graphics.
Menswear Designer
Durban, South Africa
During my tenure with Rip Curl, I became the Menswear Designer for South Africa; bridging my skills as a graphic designer with everything I had learned in the commercial fashion industry.
Design Lecturer
Durban, South Africa
I found myself wanting to teach after my degree, so I lectured at the private college I studied at, extending my skillset by teaching some of the value I had received.
BA Honours Degree Graduate
Durban, South Africa
After my undergrad I also joined the Honours program, where I extended my project management skills, and learned a great deal about myself along the way.
UX/UI Designer
Cape Town, South Africa
I reached a ceiling during my time with Rip Curl, so I switched tactics and decided to invest my skills in the digital product design space, finding a knack for the specialisation.
Freelance Designer & Illustrator
Wherever I am
Since before my first graduation to date, I have run a sole-proprietor design studio specialising in hand-crafted lettering and bespoke brand design.
Co-Founder & Designer
Wherever I am
Having worked on my own and as part of teams for years, I co-founded a partnership with an old friend and colleague as a natural evolution of each of our own studios.
